Symptoms

What the warning looks like

Chrome

“This file is dangerous, so Chrome has blocked it” banner in chrome://downloads.

Edge

SmartScreen toast: “This app might harm your device.” Only “Delete” button is visible.

Safari / Firefox

“File can’t be downloaded securely” or the download simply disappears.

Before bypassing

Verify file and source

Check the link

Download only from HTTPS URLs listed on the official links page.

Plan to verify

After keeping the file, immediately compare its hash via the hash tutorial.

Bypass steps

Allow the download safely

Chrome / Edge

  1. Open chrome://downloads or click the download toast.
  2. Select Keep (Chrome) / Keep anyway (Edge), then Show moreKeep.
  3. Move the file to a trusted folder and verify the hash.

Firefox / Safari

  1. Firefox: Downloads panel → click blocked item → Allow download.
  2. Safari (macOS): Preferences → Security → temporarily allow downloads from “trusted developers,” then retry.
  3. Safari (iOS): Use Files → Downloads to tap “Allow anyway.”

SmartScreen & AV

Whitelist without turning off protection

Windows Security

  • Settings → Privacy & security → Windows Security → Virus & threat protection.
  • Open Protection history → allow the blocked item.
  • Or add a temporary exclusion for the download folder.

Chrome Safe Browsing

  • Settings → Privacy & Security → Security.
  • Switch to “No protection” only during the download, then revert.

Third-party antivirus

  • Use “Allow/Trust” in quarantine instead of disabling entire shields.
  • Whitelist the hash or folder, then remove the rule after installation.

Automation

Use download managers for smoother bypass

Android (ADM)

  1. Copy the direct link, open ADM → add URL.
  2. Enable “Split download” and “Auto resume.”
  3. ADM bypasses some browser policies because it handles the download itself.

PC (aria2)

aria2c https://mirror1...apk \
  --max-tries=3 --auto-file-renaming=false

aria2 downloads outside the browser, so SmartScreen only checks once after completion.

FAQ

Browser block questions

No. Disable only for a minute or whitelist the hash, then re-enable protection immediately.

Some browsers re-scan during installation. Add the installer to the trusted list and verify hashes again.

It might skip cached warnings but the security layer still checks the file. Use the steps above instead.
